Dal 29 marzo 2021 al 27 marzo 2022, saranno visitabili presso la George Economou Gallery, del Tate Modern Museum, grazie alla collaborazione di Bank of America, due installazioni dell’artista Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrored Room – Filled with the Brilliance of Life e Chandelier of Grief.
Il programma d’arte della Bank of America, è uno dei metodi con cui la compagnia si propone di crescere responsabilmente ed aumentare il valore dell’economia, della società e della comunità stessa.

In origine l’esibizione era stata programmata per il Ventesimo compleanno del Museo, nel 2020 per l’appunto, ma causa pandemia, è stata rimandata ad un anno di distanza.
Tate Modern Museum
Il Tate Modern è un museo parte del complesso Tate del Regno Unito. Si trova a Londra, nella zona Bankside ed è ospitato in una ex centrale elettrica.
Dal 2000, anno della sua apertura, più 40 milioni di persone lo hanno visitato, facendolo diventare uno dei poli museali principali che più attraggono turisti.
Chi è Yayoi Kusama?
Yayoi Kusama nacque nel 1929 a Matsumoto, Giappone, ed il suo amore per l’arte iniziò già in tenera età, sebbene di sovente ostacolata dalla madre.
Trasferitasi a New York, nel 1960 iniziò a calcare le scene, grazie al suo eclettismo che le permetteva di lavorare ed esprimersi sia con dipinti, sia con installazioni, sia con sculture ed anche opere legate al fashion design.
Tornata a vivere nel 1970 in Giappone, ma a Tokyo, continuò ad essere acclamata sulla scena internazionale, arrivando ad avere diverse esposizioni monografiche in tutto il mondo: ricordiamo in particolare quella del 2012, presso il Tate Modern Museum, in cui tornerà a marzo 2021.
Porterà la sua arte, sempre il prossimo anno, anche presso il Giardino Botanico di New York ed a Berlino nel museo Gropius Bau.
Le due installazioni
Infinity Mirrored Room – Filled with the Brilliance of Life, la prima delle due grosse installazioni che saranno visitabili nel 2021, già in passato presentata al Tate Modern Museum, è una gigantesca stanza in cui il visitatore può passeggiare seguendo un percorso fatto di piastrelle riflettenti.
I muri e il soffitto sono a loro volta specchianti e sul pavimento che circonda la strada vi è una pozza d’acqua. Dall’alto, pendono centinaia di piccole e rotonde luci led, che si riflettono, illuminando di tantissimi colori il luogo.
Chandelier of Grief, invece, è un’esibizione caratterizzata da una stanza con una struttura bianca ed esagonale al proprio interno. Lo spettatore una volta entratoci, si ritrova in un ambiente completamente pieno di superfici specchiate, con un’unica luce rappresentata da un candelabro in stile barocco, sospeso dal soffitto della struttura.
Grazie ad un meccanismo che ne permette la rotazione e il suo naturale sfarfallio, luci pulsanti attraversano le pareti, creando un effetto destabilizzante ed ipnotizzante.
